A while back (when I was in high school) I was attending a seminary class. That day we had a guest speaker who had traveled with his family to Jerusalem. His sister wrote the following poem, which is more appropriate for Easter, but it applies to Christmas time as well. I came across this in my journal and it inspired me to try to make my home more pleasant for this time of year when we celebrate the Lord's birth.
Mary's Lamb
Mary had a little lamb.
His fleece was white as snow.
He's known throughout the world today.
His life was long ago.
Mary had a little lamb.
She gave Him humble birth.
She nurtured Him as he prepared.
To live his life on earth.
Mary had a little lamb.
She loved Him oh so dear.
She thought about His painful life.
And cried a little tear.
Mary had a little lamb.
And He began to grow.
He soon would have to leave her side.
And go out on his own.
Mary had a little lamb.
Yet her lamb was a king.
His life was prophesid of old.
Eternal life He'd bring.
Mary had a little lamb.
God's promise was fulfilled.
He came to earth to save mankind.
His father's house to build.
Mary had a little lamb.
He sometimes walked alone.
His life was full of ridicule.
Rejected by His own.
Mary had a little lamb.
And in Gethsemane.
His soul was pressed-atonement made.
He paid the father's fee.
Mary had a little lamb.
And on that dreadful night.
He took upon himself all sin.
He prayed with all his might.
Mary had a little lamb.
And on the cross He hung.
Murdered by his very seed,
His Father's will be done.
Mary's lamb has come and gone.
His mortal mission done.
He's lived a perfect, sinless life
He is the Father's son.
But with the death of Mary's lamb.
He brings the world new birth.
He overcame the chains of death.
And thus, returned to earth.
Immortal life, he freely gives.
To all mankind, the same.
Becasuse His love is so divine.
He knows us each by name.
Mary had a little lamb.
His fleece was white as snow.
No matter wher is path may lead.
We, his sheep, must go.
For this great lamb is Jesus Christ.
And someday we will see.
The loving arms of Mary's lamb.
Reaching out to you and me.
